Since they may reduce scaling, tar products are good for most cases of scalp psoriasis. They are typically in shampoo form but may also be in a cream.
Some natural remedies can also help with treatment. Both olive oil and apple cider vinegar can be good for the scalp. Apple cider vinegar is stronger and should be mixed with water before applying. Olive oil can be applied directly. For best results, warm the oil first before massaging it in. The oil can be rinsed off after the massage, but the apple cider vinegar mixture should stay on for at least an hour.
Topical steroids are useful for both mild and severe cases of scalp psoriasis, but most should not be used long term. Steroid injections can be effective for milder cases when there are only a small number of plaques to treat.
